John Wesley spoke about "works of mercy." He believed every Christian had opportunities to do good for others. These were both an obligation and a gift. After all, giving itself is a gift. Works of mercy are an essential part of God's call to "holiness of heart and life," which is nothing more than loving God and neighbor with everything we are and have.
