REACH
verb - to stretch out an arm to touch or grasp something; or to arrive at a destination. noun - the range of application or influence.
All these uses of the word reach imply going beyond what is comfortable or easy: stretching the muscles of your arm, traveling to a distant location, or spreading influence past your own boundaries to nearby objects.
In both our scripture verses for this Sunday, we do not see Jesus telling the disciples that they have earned a place of honor, or that they can kick back and enjoy themselves now that Christ has accomplished the great work on the cross, or instructing them to make their lives easier. Instead, we see Jesus telling them the opposite! The mission of Jesus of Nazareth, Savior of the World, had just begun - and the mission of His disciples is to get up, go beyond their comfort zones, and reach out beyond the limits of the early church to spread the Good News!
As we prepare ourselves for worship, making ourselves available to the Holy Spirit through prayer, let’s consider these questions:
This Sunday - the first Sunday following our Easter celebration - let’s experience the Great Commission in new and fresh ways. Are you ready to reach out to our city with the Good News of Jesus Christ?
