10.6.24 WHY TRINITY: “I Am Here for a Purpose”

Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser • September 30, 2024

Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13, Esther 4:9-17

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

As we begin our 2025 Stewardship Campaign, “Why Trinity,” I am excited to share that we will start this journey with a sermon entitled “I Am Here for a Purpose,” based on Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13 (CEB) and Esther 4:9-17 (CEB). In Ephesians, the Apostle Paul urges us to walk in a manner worthy of our calling. We are reminded that the body of Christ is made up of many parts, each with a purpose, all contributing to the unity and growth of the whole. This message is echoed in the story of Esther, where she discovers that she has been placed in her position “for such a time as this” to make a difference for her people. Both of these scriptures speak to the truth that God has a specific purpose for each of us within the church and in the world.

Our presence here at Trinity United Methodist Church is no accident. Perhaps it was a sermon that touched your heart, a small group that supported you, or a ministry that opened your eyes to God’s work in your life. I invite each of you to reflect on those pivotal moments, embrace your current role, and look ahead with hope as we discern how God is calling us to serve in the future. Each of us has a unique calling and role in this community, and together, we will explore how God is inviting us to gather in love, grow in faith, and give back in joy.

As we prepare for this week’s sermon, I invite you to reflect on these questions:

  1. What pivotal moments have shaped your faith journey and led you to Trinity?
  2. In what ways do you feel God is calling you to contribute to the growth and unity of our church family?
  3. How does the story of Esther inspire you to recognize moments when God calls you “for such a time as this” in your own life?
  4. What steps can we take as a community to continue building each other up in faith and love, as Paul encourages in Ephesians 4:12-16?

This is a special time for us as a congregation, and I believe that God is leading us toward a deeper understanding of our shared purpose. Together, we’ll reflect on how God has brought us to Trinity and how we can continue growing in faith, unity, and service. I am deeply grateful for you and the ways you continue to support the work of ministry with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

See you on Sunday!

Pastor Dedric
