1.5.25 Renewed for the Journey

Joshua 1:1-9, Matthew 3:13-17 (CEB)

Dear Trinity Family & Friends,

This Sunday, I am excited to share a special message, entitled “Renewed for the Journey,” based on Joshua 1:1-9 and Matthew 3:13-17. As we begin a new year together, this sermon invites us to reflect on how God calls us to step boldly into his promises, embracing the journey ahead with courage, faith, and renewed commitment.

Joshua’s story reminds us that stepping into God’s purpose requires trust, preparation, and faithfulness to God’s Word. As Joshua prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, God instructed him to keep the Word close: “Never stop speaking about this Instruction scroll. Recite it day and night so you can carefully obey everything written in it.” In the same way, Jesus’ baptism not only affirms his identity as God’s beloved Son but also marks the beginning of his ministry, the very Word made flesh.

This year at Trinity, we are emphasizing the importance of engaging deeply with Scripture—both individually and as a community. Reading the Bible is foundational to our faith journey, shaping us into the people God has called us to be. During the service, we will introduce ways for you to join us in this commitment, through personal reading plans, small group studies, and worship.

We will also celebrate Baptism of the Lord Sunday with a Congregational Reaffirmation of the Baptismal Covenant. You’ll be invited to come forward as clergy place the sign of the cross on your forehead with water, saying, “Remember your baptism and be thankful.” This act is not re-baptism, but a moment to renew our commitment to Christ and to support the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. If you have never been baptized and desire to do so, please reach out to one of the pastors and we would be glad to talk with you more.

As we prepare your hearts for worship, consider these questions for reflection:

  1. How is God calling you to grow in your relationship with him through Scripture this year?
  2. What steps of faith is God leading you to take in 2025?
  3. How does remembering your baptism renew your sense of purpose and identity in Christ?

I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday at 9 am Traditional or 10:30 am Contemporary. Together, let’s step into 2025 renewed in faith, rooted in the Word, and ready for the journey God has for us.

Blessings,

Pastor Dedric
