Food for Thought Collection Sunday | In Person & Drive Thru | September 5

Carolyn Moses • August 27, 2021

With school starting back many people think that the need for food isn’t as great as during the Summer; however, this isn’t the case at all. We have had a strange year and a half with the Covid pandemic and it doesn’t look like it is going to end anytime soon. This is causing many companies to lay employees off and that means more people are at home and calling on food pantries for assistance. We also have those that are homeless due to varying circumstances and they are also seeking food assistance. Therefore, pantries are running low on supplements to pass along to these families. With this in mind, let us all remember how Jesus said whenever you help the least of these you are helping me.

I personally never want to hear of people going hungry if I have the ability to provide sustenance even if I think that my contribution is miniscule (every little bit makes a difference). Remember how Jesus fed the 5000 with two fish and a loaf of bread. This was a miniscule contribution but look how far it went and that is what your contribution could also do. Let us all step up and do our part to provide sustenance for families going through some rough times. I would love for us to strive to completely fill at least four of our six bins full of food. This month’s collection on Sunday, September 5 goes to Carolyn’s Cupboard and they are in need of the following (remember, no glass containers):

cereal
canned meat
soup
crackers
cookies
canned corn
mayo
mustard
ketchup
canned spaghetti sauce
pasta
(Always remember these are needed items but all contributions are greatly appreciated.)

Bins are in place throughout the month for your contributions at the Wesley Hall entrance, the Narthex and in The New Room Lobby. If you would rather make a monetary donation, make your check to TUMC and put FFT on the memo line. We will also accept drive thru drop offs from 1 - 3 pm at the blue awning on the east side of the church.

For those of you that like to shop early next month’s collection on October 3rd will go to Share House and they are in need of the following:

cereal
oatmeal
pancake mix
syrup
grits
canned meat
canned spaghetti sauce (no glass jars)
spaghetti pasta
Velveeta cheese
rice
instant potatoes
small bags of flour, corn meal, sugar
Kool Aid
juice
tea
coffee
napkins
paper towels
Toilet paper

Thank you for making this mission project such a huge success.
