Dear Trinity Family & Friends:
As we continue in our sermon series, “The Gift of Giving,” we will discuss a topic that impacts each one of us daily: our perspective on giving. The title of this week’s sermon is “The World’s Model for Giving,” which is aimed at exploring, and perhaps challenging, the inherent differences between the world’s views on giving and God’s views. The guiding scripture for our sermon is from Matthew 6:24-34 (CEB). As a foundational passage, it reminds us that “No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve both God and money.” Such a powerful statement calls us to reflect. Are our giving habits influenced more by worldly standards or Godly standards? It is clear that our society, driven by consumerism and materialism, often links success and value to wealth and possessions. But does this align with what God desires for us?
We will also read Philippians 4:10-13 (CEB), where the Apostle Paul shares about finding contentment in any circumstance, be it abundance or need, through Christ who strengthens him. It is a perspective shift – seeing our means and our wealth not as tools for personal gain, but as resources to further God’s Kingdom and to be content in whatever situation we are placed in.
So, what drives our giving? As we approach Sunday, I invite you to reflect on these questions with me. Let us come together to challenge the norms and to truly understand what it means to give in a way that mirrors God’s heart. If you missed last week’s sermon in our series, you could catch up online at www.trinityhsv.org/services.
See you Sunday! Please invite someone!
