12.3.23 (Both) While We Are Waiting: “Why Is It Hard to Wait?” (Holy Communion)
Matthew 24:36-44 (CEB) and Isaiah 55:6-13 (CEB)
Dear Trinity Family & Friends:
As we begin our sermon series, While We Are Waiting, we deal with the question: “Why Is It Hard to Wait?” Waiting is an experience often filled with a mix of anticipation, patience, and at times, frustration. Why do we find it so challenging? In Matthew 24:36-44 (CEB), Jesus speaks about the unpredictability of his return, a message that resonates with the often-uncertain nature of our waiting periods. This passage invites us to consider the spiritual and emotional dimensions of waiting, especially when we are unsure of the timing or outcome. Isaiah 55:6-13 (CEB) also offers us a perspective on the purpose and blessings that can emerge from these waiting times. It encourages us to seek the Lord and promises that his ways, higher than our own, bring forth incredible outcomes, even in times of waiting.
This question is not just about understanding the difficulties of waiting; it’s about finding ways to navigate these periods with hope, peace, love, and joy. It’s about embracing waiting as a part of our spiritual journey and discovering the lessons and growth that can arise during these times.
For further reflection, consider these questions:
- When have you found waiting particularly challenging in your own life, and how did you cope with the uncertainty and anticipation?
- How can periods of waiting deepen our faith and understanding of God’s plans?
- What practical steps can we take to find peace and maintain hope during times when the outcome or timing is unknown?
Let’s support each other in finding meaning and strength in our waiting periods, growing together in faith and understanding. I look forward to worshiping with you and exploring this question on Sunday. Take some time this week to invite someone to Trinity.
Blessings,
Pastor Dedric
