Do you like board games? Do you play a sport or maybe have a favorite team? Similar to life, the games we love and play can often be unpredictable, but when we follow Jesus, he will equip us for whatever lies ahead. This Sunday, in both services, we will begin a 5-week sermon series entitled “Twists & Turns: Following Jesus Changes the Game” where we will use the analogy of games and sports to examine the life of the most well-known disciple of Jesus, Simon Peter. Peter’s journey in becoming the strong, courageous, and wise leader of the church was not straightforward, but was filled with twists and turns, ups and downs, success and failure, yet Jesus continued to work in him and ultimately through him. I believe that in Peter, we see ourselves—a work in progress. No matter where we find ourselves on our spiritual journey, there is always room for us to grow.
To kick-off the series, I will be preaching on Peter’s Call Story from Luke 5:1-11 (CEB). In this miraculous story of the “big catch,” Peter recognizes Jesus’ holiness and his own sinfulness and his falls to Jesus’ knees. It is in that humble posture that he receives the greatest blessing of his life. In our lives, when we humble ourselves before God, acknowledging our need for Him, He can work wonders in and through us.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for your faith journey, this is a great time to “get in the game” and make sure you invite a friend to join you!
See you Sunday!
