12.1.24 HOLY DISRUPTION: Guided by the Holy Disruption
Matthew 1:1-17, John 3:16-17
Dear Trinity Family & Friends:
This Sunday marks the beginning of our Advent sermon series, Holy Disruption. I am looking forward to sharing the first sermon, entitled “Guided by the Holy Disruption,” focusing on Matthew 1:1-17 and John 3:16-17. Together, we will explore how God’s plan of redemption often unfolds in unexpected ways, even through a messy and imperfect family tree.
The genealogy of Jesus may seem like an unusual starting point for Advent, but within this list of names, we find the profound truth that God’s work is never hindered by human imperfection. From Abraham to David to Jesus, the stories of brokenness and redemption remind us that God weaves all things together for good. We will celebrate Holy Communion Sunday, which reminds us to reflect on how we, too, are part of this ongoing story of grace and redemption.
As you prepare your hearts for worship this week, I invite you to reflect on these questions, whether on your own, with your family, or in a small group:
- How does the genealogy of Jesus challenge your understanding of who God can use in his redemptive plan?
- What unexpected events or “disruptions” in your life have revealed God’s guidance and grace?
- How does the promise of God’s faithfulness through generations bring hope to your own story?
- In what ways can you embody God’s love and faithfulness in your family and community this Advent season?
I look forward to gathering with you this Sunday at 9 am Traditional or 10:30 am Contemporary as we begin this journey of discovering God in the midst of life’s holy disruptions.
Blessings,
Pastor Dedric
