Dear Trinity Family & Friends,
This Sunday, we begin our Lenten sermon series, “What Are You Afraid Of?” by focusing on Busyness, drawing from Luke 10:38-42 and Genesis 2:1-3 (CEB).
In the story of Mary and Martha, we see a familiar tension—Martha is consumed by the tasks of hospitality, while Mary sits at Jesus’ feet, fully present. Jesus gently tells Martha that she is “worried and distracted by many things,” but Mary has chosen the better way. What if our busyness is fueled by fear? The fear of falling behind, of not being needed, of not being enough?
From the very beginning, God set a rhythm for life—six days of work followed by a day of rest (Genesis 2:1-3). Sabbath is not just a break from work; it is an act of trust. It is a declaration that we are not defined by our productivity but by our relationship with God. Yet, in our hurried world, many of us resist rest, fearing that if we stop, everything will fall apart.
This week, our spiritual practice is Sabbath. Practicing Sabbath is a countercultural act of faith. It reminds us that we are not in control—God is. Sabbath is not about laziness but about creating space for God to restore our souls, to remind us that we are beloved beyond what we accomplish.
As we prepare for this week’s sermon, I invite you to reflect on these questions:
This Lent, let’s take the bold step of practicing Sabbath. Let’s trust that God’s invitation to rest is not a burden but a gift—a reminder that we are already enough in God’s eyes. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we reflect on how Jesus calls us from hurry to wholeness.
Blessings,
Pastor Carrie
