Dear Trinity Family & Friends,
This Sunday, we continue our Lenten sermon series, “What Are You Afraid Of?” and we will focus on “Bitterness” based on Luke 15:11-13, 17-19, 25-32 (CEB) and Ephesians 4:20-27 (CEB).
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, we often focus on the younger son’s recklessness and repentance. But the elder brother’s reaction offers us a profound insight into the nature of bitterness. His resentment reveals an unspoken fear: the fear of being overlooked, unappreciated, and unloved. Bitterness doesn’t just harm relationships—it blinds us to the blessings already in our lives and keeps us from fully embracing God’s grace.
This week, our spiritual practice is forgiveness. Forgiveness is the cure for bitterness. It’s not about dismissing the pain or excusing the hurt but about choosing freedom over resentment. Forgiveness releases us from the grip of bitterness and makes room for God’s love to transform our hearts.
As we prepare for this week’s sermon, I invite you to reflect on these questions:
This Lent, let’s take the bold step of practicing forgiveness. Whether it’s forgiving someone else or seeking forgiveness for ourselves, this practice can open us to the joy and peace God desires for us. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we reflect on how Jesus leads us to freedom through forgiveness.
Blessings,
Pastor Dedric
