4.13.25 PALM SUNDAY: Can I Get A Witness?, Bishop Jonathan Holston
Luke 19:28-40
Dear Trinity Family & Friends,
This Sunday, we celebrate Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week and a pivotal moment in our journey toward Easter. Palm Sunday marks the day Jesus entered Jerusalem, greeted by crowds waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Mark 11:9). It is a day filled with hope, celebration, and expectation, yet it also ushers in the events that lead to the cross.
We are honored to welcome Bishop L. Jonathan Holston as our preacher for this special day. I have had the privilege of knowing Bishop Holston for several years. When I was in seminary, he served as my field education supervisor. His wisdom, leadership, and commitment to God’s mission made a lasting impression on me, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from him during that formative season of ministry. Bishop Holston became the resident bishop of the Alabama Panhandle Episcopal Area on September 1, 2024, serving the Alabama-West Florida and North Alabama Conferences. Before this assignment, he faithfully led the South Carolina Annual Conference as bishop from 2012-2024.
This week, our spiritual practice is engaging Holy Week. Holy Week is a time to immerse ourselves in the story of Jesus’ journey to the cross and resurrection. Through worship, prayer, and reflection, we enter into the profound mystery of God’s love for us. I invite you to join me in participating in the services and practices of Holy Week to grow closer to Christ and prepare our hearts for Easter morning.
Reflection Questions for Palm Sunday:
- How does Jesus’ humble entry into Jerusalem challenge your understanding of power and leadership?
- What does it mean to shout “Hosanna!” in your life today?
- As you engage in Holy Week, how can you make space to reflect on the sacrifice and love of Jesus?
Palm Sunday sets the stage for the greatest story ever told—the story of God’s redeeming love through Jesus Christ. This week, as we engage Holy Week together, I encourage you to invite someone to join you in worship. It’s a perfect time to share the hope and love of Christ with someone seeking a deeper connection to faith.
Let’s walk this holy path together, anticipating the joy and victory of Easter.
See you Sunday!
