May is the month that many of us think of as decoration month. For those of you that say “What is that?” It is where you go to cemetery where your loved ones are buried and put flowers on their tombstones / graves. It is a way of honoring them and letting them know just how much we love and miss them. This is something that I have been doing all my life and as I get older it makes me think / reminds me of how much Christ loves us and the many ways that he shows us this love.
In many ways, every month could be thought of as decoration month because Christ decorates us with His blessings each and every month. He also gives us opportunities to decorate others with these blessings. The Food for Thought mission project is one of those opportunities. The collection on May 7 will be going to Carolyn’s Cupboard at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Huntsville Assistance Program (the bolded items go to both.) They are in need of:
cereal
oatmeal
peanut butter
jelly
instant potatoes
macaroni and cheese
hamburger helper
canned meat (SPAM, ham, etc.)
small bags of flour, sugar, corn meal
coffee
tea bags
kool aid
paper plates
paper napkins
toilet paper
For those of you that like to shop early our collection on June 4 will go to the food pantry at New Market United Methodist Church. They are in need of cereal, oatmeal, pop tarts, pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, canned vegetables, canned meat (SPAM, ham, tuna, chicken, roast beef, etc.), canned spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, pickles, olives, barbecue sauce, salad dressing, coffee, tea bags, kool aid, paper plates and paper napkins.
